About Tekton

The Tekton is Nissan's big bet on India, a compact SUV built at the Renault-Nissan alliance plant near Chennai and launched into one of the most competitive car segments on earth. It shares its underpinnings with the latest Renault Duster but wears its own sheet metal, with bold, upright styling that borrows a little swagger from the brand's big Patrol, and a premium-feeling cabin aimed at buyers who want plenty of features for the money.

Its arrival marked a turning point for Nissan in India, where for years the Magnite small SUV had carried the brand almost single-handedly. Launch prices started at about ten and a half lakh rupees, and Indian reviewers have weighed its design, features and fuel economy against established rivals. A seven-seat version based on the same platform has been spotted testing, and it is expected to widen the Tekton family considerably.

In India the Tekton goes up against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and its own Renault Duster cousin. Comparisons with sedans like the Skoda Slavia show how wide a net buyers cast in this price range. The Tekton is also an export car, shipping from India to markets such as South Africa, Nepal and Bhutan; in South Africa it arrived after Nissan ended local vehicle production there. This page follows Indian sales reports, variant guides, comparison tests, export news and the seven-seater's development, along with the occasional record-book stunt.
