Hennessey is a very Texan idea of performance: more power, more speed, and no apologies. John Hennessey founded his company in 1991, and from its base outside Houston it built a reputation for turning Vipers, Corvettes, Mustangs, Camaros and pickup trucks into machines with absurd horsepower figures. Its modified trucks, such as the VelociRaptor and Mammoth, became a business in their own right, offering buyers the chance to turn a family pickup into something that could scare a sports car at a stoplight.
Hennessey's hypercar ambitions began with the Venom GT, a heavily reworked Lotus Exige fitted with a twin-turbocharged V8, which hit a claimed 270 mph in 2014 on the Space Shuttle landing runway at Kennedy Space Center, though the run was made in one direction and was never recognized as an official record. That experience led to the Venom F5, a ground-up hypercar with its own chassis and a twin-turbo V8 called Fury, built to chase the 300 mph barrier and to put an American name at the top of the speed charts.
Today Hennessey builds the Venom F5 in coupe, roadster and track-focused Revolution forms, and it has previewed the Blackbird, a new hypercar promising a high-revving engine, a manual gearbox, no touchscreens and no electrification, a deliberate throwback to analog thrills. Alongside the hypercars, the tuning business continues to produce high-performance versions of popular American and British vehicles.
