About Fabia
The Fabia is the small car that taught Europe Skoda could build a supermini with grown-up manners. It arrived in 1999, sharing its basic structure with the Volkswagen Polo, and offered hatchback, estate and sedan bodies with more room than the class usually allowed. It became one of the brand's bread-and-butter models, a first car, a city car and a sensible second car all at once, and it carried Skoda's practical ideas into a segment that usually trades space for style and gimmicks.
The Fabia also has a racing pedigree far bigger than its size suggests. Rally versions, especially the Fabia R5 and its Rally2 successors, have been among the most successful customer rally cars in the world, winning championships on gravel, tarmac and snow, and Skoda has marked that heritage with special editions such as the Motorsport Edition. The current fourth-generation car, launched in 2021 on the MQB-A0 platform, grew in size and dropped the estate body, and the Fabia 130 later added a hot-hatch flavor.
It is sold mainly in Europe, where it competes with the Volkswagen Polo, the Renault Clio, the Peugeot 208, the Toyota Yaris and the Hyundai i20, and where small gasoline cars face pressure from emissions rules and cheaper electric rivals. Its long-term future depends on how Skoda handles the shift to small EVs, with the Epiq now carrying that torch. News about reviews, special editions and the Fabia's rallying exploits appears here.
