The Tesla Model 3 was the car that turned the electric vehicle from a rich person's toy into something a middle-class commuter could reasonably buy. Unveiled in 2016, when hundreds of thousands of people placed deposits within days, it was meant to be Tesla's mass-market sedan, and after a painful ramp-up that Elon Musk himself called production hell, it became one of the best-selling electric cars in the world. Its minimalist interior, dominated by a single central screen, changed how designers across the industry think about dashboards.
The Model 3 offered a combination that few rivals could match at launch: a range long enough for road trips, quick acceleration, sharp handling and access to Tesla's Supercharger network.
