About Magma
Magma is Genesis's answer to BMW M and Mercedes-AMG, and its name hints at the ambition: something hot, building pressure underground before it erupts. Announced as a performance line for the luxury brand, Magma covers road cars, concepts and a motorsport program, and it is meant to give Genesis the kind of emotional credibility that comfortable sedans and quiet SUVs alone cannot buy. Hyundai has done this before with its N division, which turned a sensible brand into an enthusiast favorite, and Magma borrows that playbook for buyers with bigger budgets.
The first production model was the GV60 Magma, a sharpened version of the brand's small electric crossover with more power, a lowered stance, wider tracks and a distinctive orange-accented look. Concepts have filled out the picture: the Magma GT, a low, wide grand tourer, and the X Skorpio, a rugged off-road showpiece, both of which made public-road appearances at a hillclimb event in Italy. Genesis has also brought its X Gran Convertible concept to Le Mans for display.
The racing side is called Genesis Magma Racing, and its centerpiece is an endurance hypercar built to compete in the top class of sports car racing, including the World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That puts a young Korean brand on the same grid as Ferrari, Porsche, Toyota and Cadillac, a bold place to learn. This page tracks Magma road cars, concept reveals, race results and the slow work of building a performance reputation from scratch.
