About GV60
The GV60 is Genesis at its most playful. Launched in 2021 as the brand's first dedicated electric vehicle, it rides on the same E-GMP platform as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, but wraps it in a rounded, hatchback-like crossover body with a clamshell hood and a cabin full of theatrical touches. The most famous is the crystal sphere gear selector, a glowing orb that rotates to reveal the shifter when the car wakes up, a party trick that has charmed some reviewers and baffled others.
Beneath the jewelry is serious hardware. The 800-volt architecture allows very fast DC charging, and dual-motor versions deliver brisk acceleration, with a boost mode on the most powerful trims. Owners like the compact footprint, the comfortable ride and the face-recognition entry; critics note a tight cargo area and range that is competitive rather than class-leading. A refresh brought a larger battery and updated tech, and the GV60 Magma became the first car from the brand's performance division, tuned for drivers who want something sharper.
In the small luxury EV segment it competes with the Audi Q4 e-tron, BMW iX1 and Volvo EX40, and with its own corporate cousins, which offer much of the same engineering for less money. The Genesis case rests on design, cabin craftsmanship and the dealer experience, and on making an EV feel like an occasion rather than an appliance. It is sold in Korea, North America, Europe and Australia. Expect coverage of updates, Magma variants, long-term tests, charging and range reports, recalls and pricing moves as Genesis builds out its electric lineup.
