About SF90
The SF90 Stradale arrived in 2019 with a great deal riding on it. Named for the ninetieth anniversary of Scuderia Ferrari, the racing team founded in 1929, it was Maranello's first plug-in hybrid series-production car and, at launch, the most powerful road Ferrari ever built. A twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 combined with three electric motors, two of them driving the front wheels, to produce close to 1,000 horsepower and give the car electrically powered all-wheel drive and torque vectoring at the front axle.
It could cover a short distance in silent electric mode, then unleash acceleration that rivaled the hypercars of a few years earlier. A Spider with a retractable hard top followed, as did the lighter Assetto Fiorano package and, in 2023, the SF90 XX, a winged, more extreme version inspired by Ferrari's track-only XX program but legal on public roads. Testers praised its staggering pace and composure, though some found its complex controls and weight less engaging than the purer, lighter V8 Ferraris that came before.
The SF90 has since been succeeded by the 849 Testarossa, which revived one of Ferrari's most famous names for the next generation of its plug-in hybrid flagship. The SF90 remains the reference point for rivals such as the Lamborghini Revuelto and McLaren's hybrids, and a key chapter in Ferrari's electrification story, the car that proved Maranello's customers would accept batteries and electric motors if they came with enough speed and drama.
Because this page draws on broad Ferrari coverage, its feed also carries wider news from Maranello, including new models, financial results and classic-car auctions. For the SF90 itself, the stories to watch are used-market values, recalls and software updates, special editions and comparisons with its successor, which will show how far Ferrari's hybrid technology has moved in a few short years. Early cars are also beginning to show up on the used market, where their pace now comes at a fraction of the original price.
