About Roma and Amalfi

The Roma was Ferrari's bid to win over buyers who found its supercars too loud, too flashy or simply too much. Revealed in 2019, it was a front-engined 2+2 coupe with a twin-turbo V8 of about 600 horsepower, styled with a clean, sculpted simplicity that recalled the grand tourers of the 1950s and 1960s. Ferrari marketed it with talk of a new dolce vita, conjuring film stars on the Via Veneto, and the pitch worked: the Roma drew a large share of first-time customers to Maranello.

Testers praised its beauty, comfort and surprisingly sporty handling, though its cabin, with touch-sensitive steering-wheel controls and a reliance on screens, drew complaints about usability. A Roma Spider with a fabric roof arrived in 2023, the first front-engined Ferrari with a soft top in more than half a century. In 2025 Ferrari replaced the coupe with the Amalfi, named for the Italian coastline, which kept the basic shape but sharpened the face, raised output to around 640 horsepower and brought back physical buttons on the steering wheel.

The Amalfi Spider followed, carrying the open-air formula forward, and both cars sit at the entry point of Ferrari's range, below the V12 12Cilindri and alongside the mid-engined 296. Their rivals include the Aston Martin Vantage and DB12, the Porsche 911 Turbo, the Bentley Continental GT and the Mercedes-AMG SL, all chasing wealthy buyers who want to cover long distances quickly and in style without the theatrics of a mid-engined supercar.

Coverage here follows launches in new markets, first drives and long-distance road trips, prices, recalls and the used values of the Roma, which has become one of the more attainable modern Ferraris. Because open Ferraris carry a special glamour, it also tends to pick up stories about classic Spiders crossing the auction block, a reminder that the formula these cars follow is one Maranello has been perfecting for seventy years.

Ferrari's elegant front-engined V8 grand tourers: the Roma, a modern ode to 1960s la dolce vita, and the sharper Amalfi coupe and Spider that followed.
