About Q3
The Q3 is the Audi that many people buy first. Introduced in 2011, it squeezed the brand's design, cabin quality and available quattro all-wheel drive into a compact crossover sized for city streets, and it quickly became one of the company's most important models in Europe, China and India. It also gave younger buyers and downsizing empty-nesters an easy way into the luxury world without the cost or bulk of a Q5.
The second generation, launched in 2018, grew in size and sophistication, added the coupe-like Q3 Sportback and the fiery RS Q3 with its five-cylinder engine. The third generation, revealed in 2025, arrived with sharper styling, more digital displays, a new steering-column gear selector and a mix of mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains in some markets. Early reviews, including from India, suggest it feels more complete and premium than its predecessor, which is exactly the criticism Audi needed to answer.
Its main rivals are the BMW X1, Mercedes GLA, Volvo XC40, Lexus UX and its own electric sibling, the Q4 e-tron, which sits close in size and price. The Q3 has to balance being affordable enough to lure newcomers with being nice enough to justify the badge, a line critics watch closely. This page follows its rollout across markets, pricing, reviews, recalls and the performance versions that keep the line interesting.
