About Windsor
The Windsor did something few electric cars in India had managed: it sold in large numbers to buyers who were not early adopters. Launched by JSW MG Motor India in 2024, it is a compact electric crossover with a tall, smooth, unusual shape, closely related to the Wuling Cloud EV sold in Southeast Asia, and a cabin designed around comfort, with rear seats that recline far enough for MG to compare them with an airline business-class seat. It looks like nothing else on Indian roads.
Its masterstroke was pricing. Alongside a conventional purchase, MG offered a battery-as-a-service plan in which buyers pay a lower upfront price for the car and rent the battery by the kilometer, lowering the barrier to electric ownership. Combined with generous space and equipment, that made the Windsor one of India's best-selling electric cars, with sales passing 75,000 units in under two years. A longer-range Pro version and a string of special editions, including the dual-tone Indulge, have kept it fresh in showrooms.
Critics note that it is built for comfort rather than driving enjoyment and that its range is modest by the standards of some newer rivals. Competition is intensifying fast, with the Tata Nexon EV and Curvv EV, Mahindra's electric SUVs and Hyundai's Creta Electric all chasing the same buyers. Still, the Windsor has shown that Indian families will embrace an electric car if it is roomy, comfortable and priced cleverly, and it has become a central pillar of JSW MG Motor's strategy.
News about the Windsor covers new editions and price changes, long-term ownership reports, sales milestones, charging and battery-rental terms and comparison tests against the latest rivals. It is also a useful barometer of electric-car adoption in India, a market where affordability, financing and confidence in charging networks matter far more than headline horsepower or acceleration figures. When rivals cut prices or launch new battery deals, the Windsor is usually the car they are aiming at, and its sales charts tend to show whether those moves worked.
