About Polestar 3
The Polestar 3 is the brand's attempt to take its minimalist design and quick electric drive into the most profitable corner of the market: the premium family SUV. Revealed in 2022, it shares its basic architecture with the Volvo EX90, but goes its own way with a lower, wider stance, a pronounced aerodynamic wing on the nose and an interior built around a large portrait screen and a refreshingly simple layout. It is a dual-motor car with real pace and a sporty edge in its chassis tuning.
Its launch was delayed as software development dragged on, a problem it shared with its Volvo sibling. Production began in China and later at Volvo's plant in Ridgeville, South Carolina, giving Polestar its first American-built car. Reviewers have liked the ride and handling balance and the quality of the cabin; they have grumbled about the early software, a lack of physical controls and the price. A more recent update moved the car to an 800-volt electrical system for faster charging, a significant change for a family vehicle that spends time on road trips.
In the showroom it faces the Tesla Model Y at the top end, the BMW iX, the Audi Q8 e-tron and Porsche's electric Macan, as well as its own cousin at Volvo. For buyers it makes the case that an electric family car can be handsome and genuinely good to drive, though not cheap. The page follows reviews from Europe, Australia and North America, model-year changes, recalls, pricing, sales and the trade and tariff news that determines where, and from which factory, it can be sold.
