About Bonneville and Thruxton

The Triumph Bonneville is one of motorcycling's most enduring names. It first appeared in 1959, named after the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah where a Triumph-powered streamliner had set a speed record, and it became the quintessential British twin of the 1960s, loved by racers, rockers and film stars. The Thruxton, named after the English circuit where Triumph's twins won endurance races, became the café racer of the family. The two names together sum up British motorcycling's golden age.

When the modern Triumph revived the Bonneville in 2001, it kept the classic look while adding modern reliability, and the water-cooled generation that followed in 2016 brought the T100, T120, Speedmaster, Bobber and a sharper Thruxton. The Thruxton 1200 earned praise as one of the best modern café racers before its larger version was retired with a final edition. Owners love the character and the endless customization; critics mention weight and price.

The Bonneville and Thruxton names now also cover smaller bikes built with Bajaj in India. A Thruxton 400 café racer joined the lineup, and the new Bonneville T40 shrinks the classic look to a 400-class single, with smaller-engine versions for India. These smaller models compete with Royal Enfield's 350s and 650s, Honda's CB range and Kawasaki's retro bikes. This page collects Bonneville and Thruxton launches, reviews, comparisons, custom builds and recalls.
