The Sportage is Kia's compact SUV and one of the brand's most important vehicles worldwide. It competes in one of the largest and most fiercely contested segments in the industry, against the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V and Hyundai Tucson, and it has become one of Kia's best-selling models globally. Its combination of bold styling, practicality, value and efficient hybrid options has won it a large following among families, and it has picked up family SUV awards in several markets.
The Sportage first appeared in 1993 as one of the earliest compact SUVs, a rugged body-on-frame vehicle.
