About Creta

The Creta is Hyundai's midsize SUV for India and one of the most successful vehicles in the country's history. Since its launch in 2015, it has become the benchmark for midsize SUVs in India, regularly topping sales charts and helping Hyundai maintain its position as one of the country's leading carmakers. Its domestic sales have crossed 1.5 million units, and it has been exported to markets in the Middle East, Africa and Latin America, sometimes under other names and in related forms.

The first Creta offered a combination of upright SUV styling, generous features and efficient diesel engines that Indian buyers loved. The second generation, launched in 2020, brought bolder styling, more technology and turbocharged petrol power, and a facelift in 2024 sharpened its looks further. In early 2025, Hyundai launched the Creta Electric, bringing battery power to India's most popular SUV nameplate. An N Line version offers sportier styling and driving feel, and a next-generation Creta, reportedly with hybrid power, is in the works.

The Creta competes with the Kia Seltos, its sister model, as well as the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Tata Curvv, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun. Its strengths include features, comfort, the breadth of its engine lineup and Hyundai's extensive service network. The new Hyundai Bayon now sits just below it in India, and Hyundai is counting on the pair to work as a team rather than steal sales from each other.

Coverage includes reviews, sales milestones, festive-season discounts, new variants and spy shots of the next generation. Because the Creta is so central to Hyundai's Indian business, you will also find news about Hyundai Motor India's investments, factory expansions and export plans, as well as reports from other markets, such as Nigeria, where Creta-badged models have been introduced, and comparisons that measure every new Indian SUV against the segment leader, which is exactly where rival makers aim their launches.
