About City

The Honda City has lived two very different lives. The original, launched in Japan in 1981, was a tall, boxy hatchback with personality to spare, sold with an optional folding Motocompo scooter designed to fit in its cargo area and later in a turbocharged version nicknamed the Bulldog. Since 1996 the City name has belonged to a subcompact sedan engineered for the fast-growing markets of Asia, where it became one of Honda's most important cars.

In India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Pakistan, the City has long been a step up for buyers moving from hatchbacks to a proper sedan. It offers a roomy back seat, a refined petrol engine, available CVT and, in many markets, the e:HEV hybrid, which delivers exceptional fuel economy. A hatchback version joined in some markets. The seventh generation, launched in 2019 in Thailand, has received several facelifts to keep pace with rivals and newer safety and connectivity expectations.

The City faces stiff competition from the Hyundai Verna, Toyota Vios and Yaris Ativ, Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Virtus, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Nissan Almera, plus a flood of SUVs and Chinese electric models. Discounts, installment plans and regional launches dominate its news, along with talk of a next generation. Follow facelift launches, variant and pricing news, sales results and recalls here, from Delhi and Bangkok to Manila, Kuala Lumpur and Karachi.

Honda's subcompact sedan for India and Southeast Asia, sensible and efficient with a hybrid option, whose name began on a quirky 1980s hatchback.
