About TLX

The TLX inherited a proud sedan tradition. Acura's midsize four-doors, from the Vigor to the TL and the European-flavored TSX, were once the backbone of the brand and a genuine alternative to the BMW 3 Series for buyers who preferred Honda reliability. The TLX replaced both the TL and TSX for the 2015 model year, splitting the difference in size and price between them and promising one sedan that could do both jobs.

The first TLX was competent but anonymous. The second generation, launched for 2021, was a much more serious effort: a longer, lower body with real presence, a double-wishbone front suspension and a Type S with a turbocharged V6 and all-wheel drive. Reviewers liked its looks and handling and dinged its distracting touchpad infotainment and its weight, and sales never matched a crossover-mad market's appetite for SUVs, no matter how handsome the sedan became.

Acura has since ended the TLX, leaving it without a midsize sedan and making the Integra its only car. The decision followed a long industry retreat from four-doors; the TLX's old rivals, including the Lexus IS and ES, BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, Genesis G70 and Infiniti Q50, have either soldiered on or faded away as well. For the brand that once built its name on sedans, it marks a striking turn.

That makes this a page about a used car and a closed chapter: recalls and service campaigns, resale values, retrospective reviews and the wider debate over whether Japan's luxury brands can still make a case for the sport sedan. Any word of a future Acura four-door will land here too. Meanwhile, a low-mileage Type S has quietly become one of the more interesting used performance sedans on the market, a V6 four-door of a kind that is getting harder to find new.

TLX

Acura's last sport sedan, heir to the TL and TSX, with a turbo V6 Type S finale before the brand bowed out of the midsize sports-sedan fight.
