About Sandero
The Sandero is the car that made Dacia a household name across Europe. Launched in 2008 as a hatchback version of the Logan, it offered a roomy five-door for the price of a city car, and it has been a sales phenomenon ever since. Its formula is the purest expression of Dacia's philosophy: proven Renault engineering, a simple, sturdy cabin, low running costs and none of the gadgetry that drives up prices elsewhere. It has topped Europe's sales charts, a remarkable achievement for a car whose main selling point is that it costs so little.
The third generation, launched in 2020, moved onto the Renault Group's CMF-B platform, shared with the Renault Clio, and brought a big jump in quality, refinement and safety equipment. The Sandero Stepway, with its raised suspension and rugged trim, has become the more popular version in many markets, and the bi-fuel LPG versions remain a cult choice. Reviewers praise its value and space; critics note the basic interior and engine choices, which owners usually forgive once they see the bill.
The Sandero competes with the Renault Clio, the MG3, the Kia Picanto and, increasingly, small EVs as emissions rules squeeze cheap gasoline cars. Reports suggest Dacia is preparing a successor or a reimagined Stepway, sometimes called the Sandster. Coverage here includes reviews, sales figures, prices and news about the future of Europe's favorite budget hatchback. Whatever replaces it will inherit a simple and demanding brief: stay cheap, stay honest and never feel like a penalty.
