About LC

The Lexus LC looks like a concept car that escaped the auto show before anyone could water it down, and in a sense that is exactly what happened. Previewed by the LF-LC concept in 2012, the production LC 500 arrived for the 2018 model year with long, low proportions, dramatic surfacing and a cabin of exquisite craftsmanship. Under the hood sat a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 that sang all the way to its redline, an increasingly rare pleasure in an age of turbochargers.

Lexus also offered the LC 500h, with a complex multi-stage hybrid system that paired a V6 with a four-speed automatic and an electric motor, and later added a gorgeous convertible. Critics noted the LC was more grand tourer than sports car, heavy and best enjoyed at a brisk cruise rather than on a racetrack, and its infotainment and small rear seats drew complaints. Owners did not care: the car's sound, presence and quality made it one of the most charismatic Lexus models ever built.

Lexus has announced the end of LC production, with final editions closing out its run, and the car is already being described as the last great V8 grand tourer of its price class. Its rivals included the BMW 8 Series, Mercedes-AMG SL, Porsche 911 and Jaguar F-Type. Expect coverage of final editions, collector values, auctions and reviews, along with any news about what Lexus plans as its next halo performance coupe.
