About Mack

Few companies have given the language a phrase, but 'built like a Mack truck' has been American shorthand for toughness for generations. Mack traces its story to the Mack brothers' wagon and bus business in Brooklyn at the start of the twentieth century, and the chrome bulldog that rides on its hoods dates to the era when its stubby AC model earned a reputation for refusing to quit. The company has long called Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley home.

Mack's identity has always been vocational grit: dump trucks, mixers, refuse haulers and heavy haulers that live on construction sites and city streets. Its own MP engines and mDRIVE automated transmissions give it a degree of in-house engineering many rivals lack. Ownership changed hands over the decades, and since 2001 Mack has been part of Sweden's Volvo Group, sharing technology with Volvo Trucks while keeping a distinctly American look and attitude.

The current lineup spans the Anthem highway tractor, the Pinnacle, the Granite vocational truck, the LR refuse truck and the medium-duty MD Series, with battery-electric versions such as the LR Electric already collecting garbage in several cities. Mack competes with Kenworth, Peterbilt, Freightliner, Western Star and International, and its bodybuilder-friendly updates matter as much to its customers as its horsepower. Headlines here cover new and redesigned models, factory news from Pennsylvania, fleet deals, recalls, labor contracts and the people and businesses whose working lives are built around the bulldog.
