Replacing the W16 was never going to be easy. Bugatti's quad-turbo engine powered the Veyron and Chiron and defined two decades of hypercar ambition, so its successor needed to be more than an evolution. The Tourbillon, revealed in 2024, answered with a naturally aspirated 8.3-liter V16, developed with Cosworth, paired with three electric motors and a battery pack for a combined output of around 1,800 horsepower. It is a hybrid, but one that sounds and behaves nothing like the sensible kind sitting in the supermarket parking lot.
The name comes from a watchmaking complication, and the theme runs through the car. Its instrument cluster is a genuine mechanical assembly of gauges built with Swiss watch specialists, fixed in place while the steering wheel rim rotates around it, a deliberate refusal to let a giant screen dominate the cockpit. The body is lower and lighter than the Chiron's, the electric motors drive the front wheels and fill in torque, and the battery allows short silent stints, useful when leaving a Monaco hotel at dawn.
Bugatti plans a limited run of 250 cars, each priced in the millions and each personalized through the company's extensive customization program. Its natural rivals are the handful of other cars at this altitude, from Koenigsegg's hybrids to Pagani's V12s, though most Tourbillon buyers already own several of those. The development program has run through extreme heat and cold testing in the usual places, and the car is one of the first products of the Bugatti Rimac partnership.
