About Compass

The Jeep Compass is the brand's most global product and, in many markets, its most important. While the Wrangler gets the headlines in the United States, the Compass is the Jeep that carries the badge into India, Brazil, Europe and beyond, where buyers want the brand's image in a compact, city-friendly package. It is a car-based crossover rather than a rugged off-roader, but it still offers a Trailhawk version with Trail Rated credentials, and it has done more than any other model to make Jeep a worldwide name.

The first Compass, launched for the 2007 model year, was a cheap and widely criticized crossover that sold mostly on price. The second generation, introduced in 2017, was a dramatic improvement, with styling that borrowed from the Grand Cherokee and production in Brazil, Mexico, China and India, where it is built at Ranjangaon near Pune. In India the Compass has been a premium flagship of sorts, joined by the larger, three-row Meridian. A newer generation, built in Italy on a modern Stellantis platform, launched in Europe with hybrid and fully electric versions.

In the United States the Compass is Jeep's entry point, competing with the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester, Hyundai Tucson and the many affordable crossovers that crowd the segment. Critics have often noted its sluggish performance and modest cabin, while owners value its compact size and available four-wheel drive. In India it faces Tata, Mahindra, Hyundai and others in a fast-growing SUV market, and Stellantis has signaled big ambitions there, including deeper cooperation with Tata Motors on future Jeep models.

This feed covers the Compass in all its markets: reviews and first drives, new versions and special editions, pricing changes, recalls, sales results and the Stellantis plans that decide where future Compass models will be built. Expect Indian launch news alongside European electric updates and American price moves, a reminder that this small Jeep lives very different lives on different continents. The Indian stories in particular track localization, new variants and the partnerships that may shape the next wave of Jeep products there.
