About Raval
The Raval is Cupra's version of the car Europe has been waiting for: a small, affordable electric hatchback built in Europe. It grew out of the UrbanRebel concept, a wild-looking show car that hinted at a compact EV with attitude, and it is named after El Raval, one of Barcelona's most vibrant neighborhoods. Built at Martorell, it uses the Volkswagen Group's new front-wheel-drive electric platform for small cars, shared with the Volkswagen ID. Polo and the Skoda Epiq, and it represents a significant return of production to Spain for the group.
Cupra has positioned the Raval as the sportiest of these siblings, with sharper styling, a more dramatic interior and a tuned chassis, and it showed off the car at events including the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Early reviewers have described it as a tactile, surprisingly entertaining little electric hot hatch, a welcome change from the many sensible but forgettable EVs in the class. Pricing in individual markets such as Ireland has been revealed as the car rolls out across Europe.
Its rivals include the Renault 5, the Alpine A290, the MINI Cooper Electric, the Kia EV2, the BYD Dolphin Surf and its own cousins from Volkswagen and Skoda. The Raval matters well beyond its size: it is Cupra's ticket to younger, more price-sensitive buyers. This page gathers first drives, design and interior stories, prices, specifications and related Cupra news, including the Born, which sits just above it. If it succeeds, it could become the car that defines the brand for a whole new generation of drivers.
