About Ninja

Ninja may be the most famous model name in motorcycling, so famous that many non-riders call any sportbike a Ninja. It began in 1984 with the GPZ900R, the first Kawasaki to wear the name, a fast, liquid-cooled four that starred alongside Tom Cruise in Top Gun. Since then the badge has covered everything from beginners' bikes to some of the fastest production motorcycles ever made. Few names have done as much to define the popular image of the fast motorcycle.

The lineage includes the ZX-7R and ZX-9R of the 1990s, the ZX-6R and ZX-10R that compete in supersport and superbike racing, the ZX-14R hyperbike and the supercharged Ninja H2. The ZX-10R gave Kawasaki multiple World Superbike championships, many with Jonathan Rea. The smaller Ninjas, from the 250 and 300 to the 400 and now the Ninja 500, have introduced countless riders to motorcycling with forgiving engines and full-size sportbike styling.

Today the Ninja family spans from small parallel twins to the 1100SX sport-tourer and the H2. In India the Ninja 300 remains a popular and approachable entry point to big-brand performance, and Kawasaki has added new hybrid and electric Ninjas in some markets. Rivals include Yamaha's R-series, Honda's CBR range, KTM's RC bikes and Aprilia's RS models. This page collects Ninja launches, India prices, reviews, comparisons, accessories, racing results and recalls.
