About Sales and Market Share

Sales figures are the scoreboard of the car business. Every month and quarter, automakers and industry bodies release numbers that show which brands are gaining, which models are fading and how buyers are reacting to prices, interest rates and new technology. In the United States, companies report deliveries quarterly; in Britain the SMMT publishes registrations; in Europe ACEA tallies the market; in China the CPCA tracks passenger car sales; and in India SIAM and FADA report wholesale and retail figures.

Reading the numbers well takes care. Wholesale shipments to dealers differ from retail sales to customers, fleet sales can flatter a model, and a strong month can simply reflect buyers rushing ahead of a price rise or tariff. Electric vehicle share has become one of the most watched figures of all, rising steadily in China and Europe while moving more unevenly in the United States. Rankings shift too: Chinese brands have climbed rapidly, and in India the race between Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata and Mahindra is followed closely.

This page collects sales and delivery reports from around the world, from monthly national totals and brand rankings to best-selling models, EV market share, two-wheeler sales and quarterly delivery figures from Tesla, BYD and others. It is a way to see the trends behind the headlines: which segments are growing, which companies are winning buyers, and how quickly the industry's center of gravity is moving. A single month rarely settles anything, but a year of them usually tells the truth.
