The GranTurismo is Maserati doing what Maserati does best: a long-hooded, four-seat coupe for covering huge distances quickly and arriving looking good. The name says it plainly, and the car has been the brand's most coherent product for nearly two decades. The GranCabrio, its soft-top sibling, adds open-air theater to the same formula. Together they are the purest expression of the trident's grand-touring tradition, which reaches back to the 3500 GT of the late 1950s.

The first-generation GranTurismo arrived in 2007 with Pininfarina styling and a Ferrari-built V8, and stayed in production for well over a decade, aging gracefully and sounding sensational the whole way. The second generation, revealed in 2022, swapped the V8 for the Nettuno twin-turbo V6 in Modena and Trofeo trims and added the Folgore, an all-electric version with three motors and an 800-volt system, making the GranTurismo one of the first electric grand tourers from a traditional luxury maker. Its rivals are the Porsche 911 and Taycan, the Aston Martin DB12, the Bentley Continental GT and the BMW M8, and its biggest test is persuading buyers that the trident still belongs in that company.
