About D-Max

The Isuzu D-Max is the pickup that gets things done in places where a pickup is a tool rather than a fashion statement. Built mainly in Thailand, it is sold across Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, the Middle East, the United Kingdom and Latin America, and in India as the D-Max and V-Cross. It has never been offered in the United States, where Isuzu left the passenger market years ago.

The D-Max name first appeared in the early 2000s, and each generation has followed Isuzu's familiar recipe: a body-on-frame chassis, a durable turbodiesel and enough payload and towing capacity to make it a farm and fleet favorite. The current generation shares its underpinnings with the Mazda BT-50 and brought a much more modern cabin and a full suite of driver aids. Critics have long noted that it trails flashier rivals in refinement and power, while owners shrug and keep putting miles on.

Its competition is fierce: the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Triton, Nissan Navara and a growing wave of Chinese pickups from GWM and BYD. Isuzu has answered with a battery-electric D-Max, launched in the United Kingdom and other markets, aimed at fleets and utilities that need a zero-emission pickup that can still tow and go off road. This page collects D-Max reviews, market launches such as its arrival in Mexico, special editions, fleet deals, export news, recalls and the progress of the electric model.
