About Ram 1500
The Ram 1500 is the pickup that made its rivals rethink what a full-size truck should feel like. When the 2009 model swapped traditional leaf springs for a coil-spring rear suspension, critics predicted that work-truck buyers would revolt. Instead they discovered a pickup that rode like a big sedan, and Ram followed up with available air suspension and some of the most luxurious interiors in the class. The 1500 has since become a regular winner of comparison tests and a strong seller, giving Ford and Chevrolet a real fight in the most profitable segment of the American market.
The current generation, introduced for the 2019 model year, raised the bar again with a huge touchscreen, quality materials and a refined ride. The truck's recent history has been a soap opera of powertrain decisions. Stellantis replaced the Hemi V8 with the twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six, then reversed course after customer complaints and brought the Hemi back. The supercharged TRX desert runner gave way, at least for a time, to the RHO, a Hurricane-powered off-roader, and an all-electric version was cancelled in favor of a range-extended model with a gas engine that charges its battery.
The 1500 is built in Sterling Heights, Michigan, and it competes directly with the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Toyota Tundra, the usual suspects in a fight that never ends. Its strengths are ride quality, interior design and a broad lineup that runs from basic work trucks to luxurious Limited and Longhorn models. Its weaknesses have included recalls, a reliability record that varies by year and prices that climbed steeply in recent years before Stellantis began cutting them to win buyers back.
The feed collects reviews and comparison tests, powertrain news, special editions, recall notices, sales results and pricing moves, plus the range-extended model that represents Ram's electrified future. Expect drag races and towing tests, owner stories and the occasional custom build from a celebrity shop. Anyone shopping a used 1500 will find model-year advice and the recall history worth knowing before a test drive, and anyone who simply enjoys the full-size truck wars will find the Ram in the thick of them, usually holding the nicest interior in the room.
