About Burgman
The Suzuki Burgman is the scooter for people who want the convenience of a twist-and-go without giving up the comfort of a touring bike. Introduced in the late 1990s, the Burgman line pioneered the maxi-scooter class in many markets, with roomy seats, big under-seat storage, weather protection and engines large enough for highway riding. The Burgman 400 and the flagship Burgman 650 became favorites of commuters, older riders and anyone tired of shifting gears.
The Burgman 650 was especially ambitious, offering an electronically controlled transmission with selectable modes and touring amenities that made it something like a two-wheeled luxury sedan. In Europe the Burgman 400 has remained a steady seller, competing with Yamaha's TMAX and XMAX and Honda's Forza range. Its size and price limited its audience, but it proved that a scooter could be a serious long-distance tool, and riders who owned one rarely went back to shifting gears.
In India the name has taken on a different life. The Burgman Street, a 125cc scooter with maxi-scooter styling, brought the look to a mass-market segment dominated by practical commuters, and the Burgman Street EX added more features. A second-generation Burgman Street has since sharpened the design. Its rivals include the TVS Ntorq, Yamaha's Aerox and RayZR, Honda's Dio and Activa 125 and a fast-growing field of electric scooters, a segment Suzuki itself has entered. This page collects Burgman launches and updates, reviews, price changes, comparisons and owner events.
