About Artura
The Artura was McLaren's moonshot: a new carbon-fiber architecture, a new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 and a plug-in hybrid system, all designed in-house and launched together. Unveiled in 2021, it was meant to be the entry point to the brand and the template for the next generation of McLarens, a supercar that can tiptoe out of a sleeping neighborhood on electricity before the V6 wakes up and howls. It keeps the brand's dihedral doors and teardrop canopy in a tidier, more compact package than the V8 cars.
Its first years were rocky. Deliveries slipped while engineers chased software and electrical problems, and early owners reported glitches that took updates to cure, handing critics an easy line about McLaren reliability. The car itself won praise for its steering, its relatively low weight for a hybrid and a ride that makes many rivals feel brittle. A Spider with a folding hard top arrived in 2024, bringing a bump to roughly 700 horsepower, quicker shifts and revised suspension, upgrades that were also applied to the coupe.
In the showroom the Artura goes up against the Ferrari 296 GTB and GTS, its most direct hybrid V6 rival, as well as the Lamborghini Temerario and Porsche's quickest 911s. Sales have needed help, including zero-percent financing offers, and reports in 2026 said production will end around 2028, cutting short the payback on a platform that cost a fortune to develop. The car has also raced in GT4 form and served as a canvas for artistic one-offs.
For anyone following the Artura, the stories to watch are its end-of-life plans, any final special editions, used-market values, recalls and software updates. Just as important is the lesson McLaren draws from it. Whatever comes next at the entry point of the range will show whether the company doubles down on electrification or retreats toward simpler machinery after this ambitious, flawed and fascinating first attempt. Used buyers, meanwhile, may find that the steep early depreciation has turned the Artura into one of the more tempting supercar bargains around.
