About Type 00 and the Electric Jaguar
Jaguar's electric reinvention is one of the boldest gambles in the history of the car industry. Rather than gradually electrifying its existing lineup, the brand ended production of almost all its models and spent a period with little new to sell, while it prepared a completely new range of electric luxury cars priced far above the old Jaguars. It is a reset that has divided enthusiasts, analysts and even Jaguar's own fans, and it has made headlines far beyond the motoring press.
The rebrand broke cover in late 2024 with a new logo, a campaign under the slogan 'Copy Nothing' and an advertisement featuring models in bright costumes and no cars, which drew criticism from commentators and politicians. A few weeks later Jaguar revealed the Type 00 concept, a long, low two-door grand tourer with dramatic proportions, painted in shades of pink and blue. Supporters found it refreshingly brave; critics called it a betrayal of the brand's heritage. The debate has not cooled since.
The production car, called the Type 01, is a four-door electric grand tourer that retains much of the concept's drama and is aimed at buyers of high-end Porsche, Bentley and Aston Martin models. Jaguar has promised a powerful electric drivetrain and long range, and the car is expected to be followed by other models sharing its architecture. Jaguar's earlier electric car, the I-Pace crossover, arrived in 2018 as one of Europe's first premium electric vehicles, and it remains a reference for the brand's electric ambitions.
Whether the new Jaguar succeeds will depend on buyers rather than commentators. The coverage collected here follows the Type 01 from reveal through first drives and pricing, executive and design team changes, design studies and concept variations, sales and dealer strategy, and the JLR results that will show whether the gamble pays off. It also gathers the reactions of enthusiasts who still prefer their Jaguars with engines. Either way, the outcome will be studied in business schools for years.
